The strange man is Chen Yalong, Chen Feng’s son. He does not want the tree to be cut down and is in a standoff with the workers. Xiaoqiao appeases Yalong and manages to defuse the tension. Yalong has Asperger’s syndrome. He finds social interaction stressful so he talks to plants. Everyone thinks he is silly. Ziyang is late on his first day of work. Xiaoqiao is uncharacteristically forgiving, which leads Chen Feng to conclude they know each other. She wonders if Ziyang is Xiaoqiao’s gigolo or illegitimate son. Xiaoqiao hopes Yalong will make more friends, and wants to introduce a girl to him. On the way to meet the girl, Yalong discovers the tree he had protected earlier gone. He becomes depressed. At the restaurant, Yalong becomes agitated when he overhears a man calling trees "stupid", and pushes him against a wall.
